Rio Grande Turkey Hunt — Edwards Plateau, Texas

The Edwards Plateau of central Texas holds the largest population of Rio Grande wild turkeys in North America. These birds are vocal, visible, and numerous — spring gobbler hunting in the Hill Country is a celebration of Texas spring, with gobblers hammering from every cedar ridge at first light. Hill Country Turkey Hunts operates on 15,000 acres of prime Edwards Plateau country with excellent turkey density.

Hunts are conducted via blind set-up over decoys with aggressive calling — Rio Grande turkeys are typically receptive to calling throughout the season. Spot-and-stalk on foot through cedar and live oak country is also productive. Shooting opportunities are common; experienced guides know where the roost trees are and position hunters accordingly before first light.

Texas Rio Grande turkey season runs March–April. No draw required — only a Texas hunting license and turkey tag. Youth hunters welcome. Combination whitetail/turkey packages available in spring.
