Aoudad (Barbary Sheep) Hunt — Trans-Pecos Mountains
About This Hunt
Aoudad sheep — also called Barbary sheep — were introduced to West Texas in the 1950s and have thrived in the rugged mountain country of the Trans-Pecos. Desert Mountain Outfitters pursues free-range aoudad in the Chinati, Glass, and Santiago Mountains — some of the most dramatic terrain in North America. Mature rams with 30"+ horn length are taken each season.
This is a physically demanding mountain hunt — steep canyon climbing, glassing from high ridges, and aggressive spot-and-stalk pursuits through rocky terrain. Aoudad are incredibly athletic and live in country that tests even fit hunters. The reward is a stunning animal in an unforgettable landscape, often visible against dramatic West Texas skylines.
No draw or special permit required for aoudad in Texas — only a standard hunting license. Year-round hunting is allowed, but fall hunts coincide with peak ram activity. Combined mule deer/aoudad packages available.
