7-Day Black Bear Hunt — Bob Marshall Wilderness

The Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex is over one million acres of roadless wilderness — one of the last truly wild places in the lower 48. We run our spring bear hunts entirely on horseback, accessing country that simply cannot be reached any other way. This is as wild as it gets.

Black bears in the Bob come in a variety of color phases — black, brown, cinnamon, and even blonde. Spring is the ideal time to hunt them as they're actively feeding on green vegetation after emerging from their dens, making them visible and predictable. We spot bears from ridgetops and plan careful stalks.

Our base camp is a wall tent set up deep in the wilderness — wood stoves for heat, cots for sleeping, and a camp cook who prepares amazing meals under the big sky. The Bob Marshall is grizzly country — you'll also see wolves, mountain goats, and countless other wildlife.

This hunt requires a reasonable level of fitness — you'll be on horseback for 4-6 hours daily and hiking on rugged terrain. In return, you get an authentic wilderness experience that few people on earth will ever have. Black bear tags are over-the-counter in Montana.
