High alpine archery bear hunting in Colorado's spectacular Gunnison Basin. Hunt over active bait stations or run classic spot & stalk in the rugged terrain above 9,000 feet. August and September provide the best opportunity as bears are hyperphagia — feeding aggressively on berries and forbs before denning.

Colorado produces large black bears with excellent color phase variety — black, brown, cinnamon, and blonde bears are all possible.
