The Clearwater and Selway-Bitterroot country of north-central Idaho is classic black bear habitat — steep canyon country with old-growth cedar, hemlock, and fir. Clearwater Bear Hunts runs an accomplished pack of Walker hounds trained specifically for mountain bear country, pursuing bears up rocky ridgelines and along creek drainages. Spring bear runs April through June with lush new growth; fall hunts offer bait options September through October. Color-phase bears occasionally taken.
