Wicklow Mountains Red Stag — Ireland

Ireland's Wicklow Mountains hold the finest wild red deer population in the Republic — free-ranging stags that roam the granite uplands, blanket bog, and sessile oak woodland of what is often called 'the Garden of Ireland.' The Wicklow stag season opens August 1st, with the roar in full swing from late September through October. Stags here carry a distinct Irish 'look' — wide brow tines, good bez, and a compact body shape adapted to the windswept uplands.

Wicklow Wild Deer Stalking arranges traditional one-to-one Highland stalking on private land and forestry plantations in the Wicklow Mountains National Park buffer zone. A professional stalker and grilse are included throughout. After the stalk, retire to a country house B&B in the Vale of Avoca for evening meals with locally sourced venison and Irish craft beer.
