New Zealand Himalayan Tahr Safari operates from Nelson Lakes in the northern South Island, targeting mature tahr bulls in spectacular alpine terrain accessible by helicopter and on foot. Record-class bulls with 50"+ horns are achievable in this lightly-hunted terrain.
Helicopter access gets you into the tahr's alpine strongholds above 6,000 feet, where big bulls live year-round. Your guide — with 15+ years hunting NZ tahr — will spot and plan each stalk, putting you within rifle range of mature trophy bulls. Combination hunts with chamois or red stag available. Season runs April through July (open season). 5-day packages start at $5,800.
