Brown Bear — Carpathian Mountains, Romania
About This Hunt
Romania's Carpathian Mountains hold the largest concentration of brown bears outside Russia — an estimated 6,000 bears in a sustainable, well-managed population. Spring and fall hunts over bait sites produce extraordinary success rates, with mature boars averaging 250–350 kg and skulls in the 55–65 SCI range regularly taken.
Romanian Brown Bear Outfitters operates licensed hunts under Romania's quota system on private hunting concessions in the most productive bear habitat of the Southern and Eastern Carpathians. Hunts are conducted from elevated high seats overlooking established bait sites in dense spruce and beech forest. Pre-baited sites are monitored with trail cameras to identify trophy bears before your arrival.
Romania is unquestionably the best European destination for brown bear hunting — the population is healthy and self-sustaining, the trophy quality exceptional, and the costs far below comparable hunts in Russia or Scandinavia. Spring hunts (April–May) and fall hunts (October–November) are both available.
